Nicki Minaj Is Shaking Up Female Rappers

Updated on July 29, 2010

Nicki Minaj is only one among the many female artists trying to break into the rapping industry. She is also one of the many who has successfully cemented her name in the rap game for years to come. Most of her credit for her success has to go to, 'The Come Up' DVD owner, Fendi who made her music avaiable to Lil Wayne who lated scheduled a meeting with Nicki to discuss a future record deal with Young Money Entertainment. Despite the extra buzz that was created by her many features on 'The Come Up' DVD and Lil Wayne co-signing her, her rapping abilities simply can not be denied. The reason for her being signed President of Fendi's Dirty Money Records and being approached by the Young Money president, Lil Wayne, is her unique style and ability to write her own lyrics. Some say that she is famous now because of Lil Wayne, but the truth of the matter is that she herself and her wort-ethic got her music in the hands of Lil Wayne.

With any new artist, there is going to be hate, and that's something that Nicki Minaj is not in lack of. The majority of people hate on Nicki because her style being so similar to Lil Wayne and Lil Kim. Nicki Minaj Songs get most of their hate because of her metaphor and wordplay heavy style with excessive sexual innuendo. I guess you could say the reason a lot of people hate Lil Wayne is the same reason that they hate Nicki Minaj. Although her style may be similar to theirs, neither Lil Wayne or Lil Kim have stated that she's bit their style. In fact, they have embraced her and her style of music claiming that she is going to be one of the best female rappers in the game. She has also caught flack from other female emcees claiming that she is a fake or untalented artist. Some of the rappers being, Angel Lola Luv, Reece Steele, and Summer Walker among others. On the other hand that are many, more recognized female artists who have embraced her music and really like it such as Remy Ma, Lim Kim, Mariah Carey, Trina, Beyonce, Ciara, & Teairra MarĂ. Even Jay-Z has publicly co-signed Nicki Minaj stating that she has the potential to be one of the greatest female rappers.

Nicki Minaj music over the years has continually been changing due to the fact that she is still very new to the music industry and her talent is still very young. She has made much progress in the few short years of being in the public eye. She has also been gradually leaning away from the sex appeal gimmick she's been using for so long. She is now beginning to talk more about herself and other things than sex. A glimpse of her new approach to music can be heard in her latest mixtape, 'Beam Me Up Scotty,' which is a sneak peak of her first debut Nicki Minaj Album. The album is currently untitled and has no official release date. Nicki has stated that she feels no pressure to drop her album and is taking her time in creating a master piece. The album is expected to be released sometime in 2010, but I guess we will see.
